And now for something completely different, as opening the Tunstall Tent on Sunday will be Sunderland's own Liars Lie. Liars Lie are a 3 piece 'math rock' outlet who, fresh from releasing their debut single Saturday Night/Sunday Morning in April, have become a source of intrigue from fans and critics alike.

The Liars Lie music experience is a truly puzzling one; from their intricate guitar solos, to their song-within-a-song structures, this band are deservedly causing quite a stir in the North East. They have been featured on Nick Roberts' 'BBC Introducing' segment on BBC radio Newcastle, and have shared the stage with North East heavyweights 'The Chapman Family' and 'Spray on Jeans'/'Ramsey'.

Often seen throwing a combination of pig’s hearts and broken drumsticks around the stage, Liars Lie are guaranteed to get the Sunday leg of Split Festival off to a flying start. After all, what more could you want on a lazy Sunday afternoon than loud rock music coupled with a rapturous crowd screaming for more of it.

As for what 'math rock' actually is, you'd have to come along and see for yourself, just make sure you bring a calculator.
